What gets to me about all this is he is suffering to protect hunters. Hunters who have tortured and violated his body in the past (Roy and Walt Tim and Reggie with their demon blood), hunters who have sneered at him while working alongside him (the female hunter in 9X02) and he is willing to endure this to keep them safe.

Don’t try and tell me Sam Winchester isn’t a hero.

While we’ve seen that Sam still does have contacts in the hunters’ community, he has been somewhat othered from it at least since season 2. This exchange occurred in 2.05:

DEAN: I just don’t know if going to the Roadhouse is the smartest idea.

SAM: Dean, it’s another premonition. I know it. This is gonna happen, and Ash can tell us where. Plus it could have some connection with the demon. My visions always do.

DEAN: Yeah, man, but… That’s my point. There’s gonna be hunters there. I don’t know if, if, if going in and announcing that you’re some supernatural freak with a, a demonic connection is the best thing, okay?

[Side note: Roy & Walt are the ones who killed Sam and Dean in 5.16. It was Tim and Reggie who forced demon blood down Sam’s throat in 5.03.]
